Kitchen Sync Sound Recorders

Kitchen Sync Sound Recorders, Hollywood

From a humble beginning in the Hollywood Hills garage of Michael Hamilton & Larry Menshek, Kitchen Sync evolved to become home to many songwriters, artists, publishers, TV music producers and new wave & hard core punk bands.

After Michael & Larry joined forces with Jeff in 1977, they set out to find a suitable home for a commercial recording business, ideally in the heart of Hollywood. As luck would have it, which seems to often be the case, the trio came across a studio owner that happened to have a room no longer in use. Enter Del Casher (Kacher). Del’s former studio was right on Sunset Blvd at Western Ave, a neighborhood that was home to many thriving pro studios and LA Vice. Although small in size, Del’s was an acoustically designed room that included a control room, isolation booth, a studio that could accommodate four to five players, a lounge and office. The business was born overnight. Del included some vintage tube gear (big knobs, bigger meters) along with stories of his relationship with Les Paul, Elvis and his invention of the wah-wah pedal! Seriously.

Within a year, we were able to upgrade everything; the mixing board, tape machines (16 & 2 track), monitors, microphones and replace the upright piano with a sweet baby grand. It wasn’t long before we started hearing our efforts on record and broadcast over the air. Damn, 16 tracks on 2″ tape sure sounded great.
